Drums are ‘MMESYF’’s most significant element. Though they frequently embolden the all-round feel of the record, ‘Sanjuro,’ ‘Ain’t No Way,’ and ‘X-Wing,’ feature extraordinarily crude electronic hi-hats and monophonic drones which generate a severely underwhelming series of tracks. There are moments, too, when Curry’s early proclamation of biblical repentance is sidelined in favour of antonymic bitterness. Troublingly, almost every other aspect of the record is fucking awesome. Curry brings intensity to his technical perfection, creating a mammoth individual performance full of hot emotion. Several live drum performances reach a beautiful peak, evoking classic hip-hop and exploratory jazz. The flaws are ultimately forgivable, but more importantly, skippable.
